The difference between making a sale and facilitating a business transaction.

When it comes to business, specifically sales in general, many of us get lost in the transaction. What I mean here is, a transaction differs vastly than making a sale or when influence is used to close a deal. For instance: A customer walks into Walmart and decides to buy a TV. In this case, the customer already knows the brand/size he wants and proceeds to the checkout counter. Walmart may have put the item on “sale”, but this is known as a transaction. The next customer walks into Best Buy looking for a TV, and decides to ask for help. The sales rep in turn goes through the selection of available TV’s, while using his influence to persuade the customer, in hopes of getting a decision. The “sale” happened when the customer walked out with a bigger and better TV than initially planned. In this case, the sales rep was not just “taking an order”, or facilitating a transaction. This is where most salespeople get it wrong. It sounds simple, but to be an effective salesperson, one must know

How To Get A Decision

Sales #101 Getting a Decision When it comes to making sales, there is nothing more important than trying to get a customer to make a decision. This is always the biggest goal. The quicker, the better… However, there is always more than one decision to be made, and it can be quite challenging at times.  First and foremost, we want to provide a clear path/funnel, in which to lead the customer through the selection/purchasing process. This is where needs assessment, and solution-based selling comes into play. You’ve got to understand your customer in such a way, that you can lead them through the funnel with confidence, while making them feel good about their overall experience.  Focus on value, professionalism, quality, and service.  Now that the customer has selected the product, another challenge looms and it’s time for another question. How do we get the customer to make the decision to purchase? Simply put, in order to get a decision, you must first provide your customer with an

MetroFlor Reserve

In a market full of Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP), it’s often difficult to discern why one product may be better than another. Homeowners generally base their choices on price, color, and style; however, there is more more to LVP than meets the eye. With all the failures in the market, it is important to know what you are buying, and how the product will ultimately perform.  This is where MetroFlor comes in. With their Assure Certification, you can be assured the product has all the performance measures, testing, and quality standards needed for a waterproof product to perform, and for homeowners to be free of red-list, or cancer causing chemicals.   The Assure Certification is a big deal… With LVP, it’s important to pay attention to the details. Especially the installation instructions.. Now, if you are in the market looking for luxury vinyl plank. Look no further than the new Inception Reserve Collection by MetroFlor. The History of Hardwood Flooring

In 2022, Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) may be king, but nothing exudes opulence and royalty like an early 17th century hardwood floor. The earliest and finest examples date back to the late 16th century. During this time, hardwood floors were afforded only by royalty. For example, just outside Paris at the Palace of Versailles, is perhaps one of the world’s most recognized and historic hardwood floors. The Parquet de Versailles pattern in Hall of Mirrors was designed for King Louis XIV. In the late 1670’s the King’s Grand Apartment was badly in need of renovation. The joists were rotting and the marble needed to be replaced. Creating this floor was a painstaking and arduous process, that took many years to complete. Made from hand-hewn timber, the master-craftsman spent time hand-forging nails and hand-scraping the floors. Large piles of sand were brought in, and the craftsman literally sanded the floors by hand. The floors were then finished and buffed with wax. Over two decades later in 1

ASTM F2170 (RH) “Concrete Moisture Testing”

ASTM F2170 (In-Situ) “Rh”  Concrete Moisture Testing  Is an industry standard in the floor covering world, yet so many choose to ignore it. We here it all the time, no, we do not do any moisture testing for Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP). We just use plastic underneath. “That’s what they are telling us to do”…. This poses an ever greater problem. Great, lets just trap all the moisture in the slab and have a mushroom field underneath. That sounds great! Mold in the walls and baseboards, who cares, right? I hear it more often than you think.  After reading competitors installation instructions well into the night hours, I’ve come to this same conclusion over and over again. ASTM F2170 is required across all segments of the floor covering world, with the exception of residential carpet. Now, this is nothing new, and I’ve been saying all of this for years… It’s all about doing things right from the very beginning. So many problems could be avoided, if people would just “do the right thing”… Star

Social Distancing in Today’s World

Back in 2009, when I first started this flooring blog, my intention was to help educate consumers in such a way, so they could make well-informed decisions when it came to purchasing floor covering. It was really that simple, and it was the “right’ information I was mostly concerned about; therefore, home-owners, contractors, retailers, and designers would all benefit from the information I was providing. As time passed by I was gaining more followers, and I felt more inclined to answer all of  their questions. I quickly became known as “The-Floor-Man. I spent a lot of time writing back in the day, and thought I was going places... However, early on, I realized how much of a commitment it is to write everyday, and to “blog” consistently. There is a lot that goes into all that blogging stuff, e.g., research, editing, SEO, and more....Moreover, to be effective, one must engage their audience in such a way, as to build a sense of curiosity, wonder, and excitement. Man, its a lot of wo
